Gothic Mood Board

This mood board was developed for a client interested in the gothic design style.  This particular design style infuses a dramatic, edgy elegance into the spaces of its admirers. To accomplish this aesthetic, the design relies heavily on a deep color palette of black, reds, purples, and blues primarily, supported by the juxtaposition of silver or gold features. Long, dramatic curvilinear vertical lines often create the design’s notorious cathedral shape observed in furniture and windows. This design style is also home to a unique quatrefoil pattern that highlights its bold nature, as pictured in the tile in the left-hand corner of the board. The design style draws inspiration for its decor from nature – primarily flowers – to incorporate organic hapes into its fabrics, drapery, or with the strategic placement of live floral arrangements. This serves to soften the bold atmosphere while emphasizing the beauty in the overall style. Elongated windows, such as those pictured in this mood board, invite light into the space; however, elaborate chandeliers and candles are the key avenues for lighting in this style.
